Yooka-Laylee is Basically the Next Banjo-Kazooie

Former Rare developers decided to resurrect the golden age of the 3D platforming era, and here’s what they’ve been working on.

[dropcap size=small]A[/dropcap] bat riding a chameleon, better known as Yooka and Laylee, are the spiritual successors to Rare’s beloved Banjo-Kazooie. It’s supposed to sound like ukulele, guys. As posted on the Kickstarter page, former Rare developers are looking to “Rare-surrect the buddy-duo platformer.” I, for one, enjoyed the 3D platforming era of gaming, waking early up on Saturday mornings to try to get to the top of Peach’s castle and finally meet Yoshi. Nostalgia hit me hard when I watched the trailer for this.

The gameplay footage screams 1998, minus the blocky graphics. Just listen to that soundtrack, it’s perfect. Luckily, the Kickstarter page shattered it’s $270,000 goal by a few extra bucks. A whopping $1.3 million backed and still 45 days to go. The new duo promises an arsenal of all new buddy abilities, including: flying, rolling and stretchy tongue antics.

The game is set to release October of 2016 for PS4, Xbox One, Wii U and PC/Mac/Linux. For more information, on the game, check out Playtonic’s Kickstarter page.
