Disney Announces 9 More Live Action Films with Jungle Book and Maleficent Sequels

Disney is 9 steps closer to ruling the world.

[dropcap size=small]D[/dropcap]ue to the massive success of John Favreau’s The Jungle Book, Walt Disney Pictures officially released its plan to release 9 more live-action fairy tale films. These films include sequels to Maleficent, The Jungle Book and Alice in Wonderland.

Alice Through the Looking Glass is set to hit theaters on May 27th and David Lowery’s updated re-telling of Pete’s Dragon will follow up on August 12th. After that, Bill Condon’s Beauty and the Beast will debut on March 17th, 2017. While no specific dates have been verified for the following titles, Disney has released some information regarding their production.

  • Cruella – Emma Stone will star as the famous black and white clad 101 Dalmatians villain. The screenplay will be written by Kelly Marcel
  • A Wrinkle in Time – This adaption of Madeleine L’Engle’s novel will be directed by Ava DuVernay and will feature a screenplay written by Jennifer Lee
  • Jungle Cruise – This film Will star Dwayne Johnson and its screenplay will be written by John Requa and Glenn Ficarra
  • Dumbo – Tim Burton is set to direct this screenplay by Ehren Kruger
  • Mary Poppins – A sequel to the 60’s classic is set to star Hamilton’s Lin Manuel-Miranda alongside Emily Blunt
  • The Nutcracker and the Four Realms – Lasse Hallstrom will direct Ashleigh Powell’s screenplay
  • Tinkerbell Movie (Official title TBA) – Reese Witherspoon will star as the famous little fairy in a screenplay by Victoria Strouse
