The Marvel Television Universe and Marvel Cinematic Universe may collide together in a big way come 2019.
[dropcap size=small][dropcap size=small]T[/dropcap][/dropcap]arious sources are reporting that Netflix’s Defenders may make the jump to the big screen for Avengers: Infinity War Part II. That means Daredevil, Jessica Jones, Luke Cage, and Iron Fist could join the Avengers to fight the big fight when it all goes down Summer 2019.
Keep in mind, right now this is all conjecture, but the likelihood of this happening is not out-of-this-world. It’s been previously stated that Marvel hopes to blend the Television and Cinematic Universes into one big universe. We’ve already seen examples of this on Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., and Netflix’s Daredevil makes numerous references to the events in The Avengers film.
Without getting in to too much contract mumbo-jumbo, it’s likely that the stars of the television and Netflix shows have clauses in their contracts to make them available for feature films. It doesn’t quite go the other way around, however– which is why you probably won’t be seeing any of the core Avengers actors in the television shows unless Marvel is willing to pay a hefty fee.
So, why Avengers: Infinity War Part II and not any of the earlier films? Again, it all comes down to boring contract stuff. Infinity War Part II is essentially the earliest that the Netflix stars’ contracts will allow them to make the jump and join the heavy-hitters in the MCU.
The Avengers: Infinity War Part II is slated for release May 3, 2019.
