Kenneth Braugh and Mark Rylance are lead candidates to co-star in this action-thriller!
[dropcap size=small]W[/dropcap]e have seen plenty of movies telling a story during World War II. Movie director Christopher Nolan looks to continue that trend with his new movie Dunkirk. Dunkirk will tell the story of the evacuation of Dunkirk, France. Tom Hardy is the favorite to land the lead role, while Kenneth Branagh and Mark Rylance are in talks for side roles in this action-thriller, announced on Monday by Warner Bros.
The rest of the cast has yet to be determined, although the consensus is that Hardy, Branagh and Rylance will be high-ranked military officers.
Nolan has written the script and will also produce the movie with long-time producing partner Emma Thomas. Nolan has already visited Dunkirk for possible destinations for Operation Dynamo, the British military operation that saved 330,000 lives Allied Soldiers from the German forces surrounding them.
“We are thrilled to be continuing our collaboration with Christopher Nolan, a singular filmmaker who has created some of the most critically acclaimed and commercially successful films of all time. ‘Dunkirk’ is a gripping and powerful story and we are excited to see Chris, Emma and their cast realize it on the big screen,” said Greg Silverman, president of creative development and worldwide production at Warner Bros.
The movie will be shot with a combination of IMAX 65mm and 65 mm large format film photography. Movies that have used these cameras recently include J.J. Abrams Star Trek: Into Darkness, Francis Lawrence’s The Hunger Games: Catching Fire, Luc Besson’s Lucy, and Nolan’s Interstellar. Nolan has been notorious for using IMAX cameras in his movies, dating back to The Dark Knight Trilogy. Shooting will begin in May, using real-life locations in Dunkirk and throughout France, to tell the background story.
Warner Brother’s Dunkirk is set to be released on July 21, 2017!
