The world-famous manga just might make it to the big screen, finally.
[dropcap size=small]I[/dropcap]t was nearly thirteen years ago that news broke that Warner Bros. Studios had bought the rights to Katsuhiro Otomo’s Akira. Since then, news about the project has reappeared and disappeared throughout the years. At one point it seemed that Keanu Reeves and Kristin Stewart were a part of the project, but just like the project itself, it never came to be.
According to Den of Geek‘s sources, it sounds like a big screen version of Akira is finally getting off the ground. Leonardo DiCaprio’s production company Appian Way is supposedly in charge of production with Sons of Anarchy screenwriter Marco J. Ramirez working on that script.
In other exciting Akira-related news, rumor has it that Christopher Nolan may be involved with the film. A few weeks ago we reported that Christopher Nolan would be involved with a movie that has a release date of some time in 2017. No title was given, but it is possible that Akira could be that film. Whether or not Christopher Nolan will be directing or assisting in producing Akira remains to be seen.
