A Pirates Life for Me!
YAAARRRGGGH! That be unexpected! During the PlayStation E3 2018 Showcase another new Kingdom Hearts 3 trailer was shown (just a day after the Frozen world was revealed during the Xbox press conference).
The trailer reveals that Port Royal (now called just called The Caribbean!), the world based on the Pirates of the Caribbean franchise, is returning from KH2! This time, Sora and the gang are dressed in appropriate pirate gear, and it’s adorable.
We get a brief scene in Davy Jones’ Locker featuring Gibbs, Will Turner, Elizabeth Swan, Captain Barbossa, Tia Dalma, and of course, Captain Jack Sparrow, riding in on the Black Pearl. This scene is really the only thing we have to go off movie plot-wise, but it seems as though the events of this world will at least cover the events of the third film, At World’s End. (We better get a Davy Jones and or Kraken boss fight.)
We then get a pirate ship combat scene (your move Skull & Bones), followed by a ship’s wheel keyblade transformation and some swimming combat (I’m getting KH1 Atlantica flashbacks).
We then get some story news as Luxord, the gambling foe fought at Port Royal in kH2, is revealed to be in the new Organization XIII, and he’s looking for that same black box Maleficent and Pete are looking for. Hmmmm.
Anyway, more brief snippets from Disney worlds are shown, including Olympus Coliseum, Frozen, Tangled (clearly not localized yet), Monsters, Inc. and Toy Story.
We then see Kairi (!) in her new clothes (!!) chatting with Axel (!!!). I’d ship it.
The trailer ends with a brief shot of Riku sitting suggestively on a beach at Destiny Island next to Riku Replica (a clone of Riku who died in Chain of Memories), who is also sitting suggestively.
As weird and goofy as that final scene was (so 100% Kingdom Heats), it certainly confirms KH3 will probably wrap-up every loose thread and give the characters endings, no matter how small. Get hyped.
Kingdom Hearrrrrggghts 3 finally releases for PS4 and Xbox One on January 29.
