Monaghan teases fans on Instagram with a picture of him dressed as The Joker!

Gotham developer Bruno Heller teased fans back in February about the idea of the Joker being featured in Season 2 of Gotham. This Instagram photo of Cameron Monaghan may have that rumor become a reality.

“I can tell you this is a long game plan and a long story that we are telling here. What I can promise you is this is not a bait-and-switch. This is not someone who is just a character who is going to disappear. This is not a red herring,” said Heller after a promo lit up the Internet. “It’s the beginning of the story of how the Joker came to be, how the Joker was created, where he came from, who he is. Now, that doesn’t necessarily mean that Cameron Monaghan is the Joker. He might be. But like I say, this is a story that begins about seven or eight years before the actual Joker arrives on the scene in his fully-fledged persona.”

Heller revealed in May that there would be more of Jerome/The Joker in season 2 of Gotham, which is currently being filmed. He also said that there will be plans to include villian roles for James Frain and Jessica Lucas.

“We’re going to find out how the hell Jerome, the proto-Joker we met earlier in this season, connects with the Joker as people known him,” Heller told The Hollywood Reporter. “That’s the big focus of the beginning of the second season. We’re going to tell the story of how the Joker came to be.”

It makes sense that The Joker is finally going to be introduced to Gotham and fans can’t wait to hear the back story about Batman’s common enemy!

Season 2 of Gotham is set to premiere on Monday, September 21st on Fox!
