After the show was renewed in June, Director Adam Reed plans to end it after the 3-season renewal!
[dropcap size=small]D[/dropcap]uring a podcast at the Modern School of Film, Archer director Adam Reed talked about his plan for the show’s most recent three-year extension with FX:
The plan is to end Archer after season 10. I don’t know that anybody has talked about that, but that is definitely my plan – to do 8, 9, and 10 and they’re gonna be each shorter seasons of just eight episodes – and then wind it up. … I was gonna end it after 8, but then I had sort of a brain explosion of a way that I could do three more seasons and really keep my interest up. So the three seasons that are coming up are gonna be pretty different from what has come before, and they’re gonna be different from each other.
Reed also said that he wants to end the show “on a strong note,” which could be difficult putting together three more seasons of content. But since the show was renewed, we can assume that it shouldn’t be a problem. Reed did elaborate more on what could happen during the three-season extension.
“I do think that things can go on too long and maybe instead of just looking at the bottom line, maybe those creative energies could be better used coming up with something new rather than continuing the same thing.”
These are all great points made by Reed and it looks like the show is heading in the right direction. Just a question of whether Reed can put together three more seasons that people will want to watch now.
