The first official female version of Link arrives.
During todays Nintendo Direct, a female version of Link named “Linkle” was revealed as a playable character in Hyrule Warriors Legends for the 3DS.
She is described as utilizing “energetic, jumpy” gameplay mechanics, and in combat, she uses a pair of crossbows, as well as a “spin kick” super attack.
Linkle was actually first revealed through an art book for Hyrule Warriors on the Wii U, leaving many to speculate she would eventually appear in the series.
Linkle joins a number of other Zelda characters that will make their debut in Legends, the 3DS port of Hyrule Warriors. These characters include Tetra, King of Red Lions, Toon Link, and Skull Kid.
While not confirmed, it can be assumed that Linkle will unlock in the Wii U version Hyrule Warriors if you own both versions of the game, as will be the case for the other incoming characters.
We applaud Nintendo for finally creating a female version of one of gaming’s most iconic protagonists. Does this mean Linkle will appear in future Zelda titles? We hope so.
Today’s Direct had a number of other prolific reveals, including Twilight Princess HD, Pokémon Red, Blue, and Yellow coming to the 3DS, and Cloud from Final Fantasy joining Smash Bros.
Hyrule Warriors Legends comes to the 3DS on March 25, 2016.
