A man’s gotta do what a man’s gotta do.
[toggler title=”TL;DR” ]Joss Whedon has expressed an interest in making a sequel to Dr. Horrible’s Sing-A-Long Blog, and is said to have a script, a title, and new songs in the works.[/toggler]
[dropcap size=small]C[/dropcap]aptain Hammer once proclaimed that ‘it’s curtains for you, Dr. Horrible. Lacy, gently wafting curtains.’ Whilst he may have been right about the lacy part, the curtains are certainly not drawn for good on Dr. Horrible just yet.
If you’re a big Joss Whedon fan, I hope you’re sitting down, because one of his much loved projects looks set to make a come back. A sequel to Dr. Horrible’s Sing-Along Blog – that hilariously charming tale of a super-villain who just wants to win the love of geek queen, Felicia Day – is apparently in the works.
The web TV mini series won the hearts of many with it’s hilariously well-written songs, and quirky characters. Nathan Fillion played the heroic – or not so heroic as it turns out – Captain Hammer. Neil Patrick Harris took on the unlucky evil doctor, who’s heart is set on the charitable redhead, Penny (Day), and then there’s the ever sweaty bud of Dr. Horrible, Moist, played by Big Bang Theory’s Simon Helberg.
And how could anyone forget that dastardly evil master mind, Bad Horse?
The cast of Dr. Horrible reunited at Paleyfest in New York this month, and the folks at Vulture got to ask Whedon about the potential sequel. The pictures that emerged from this momentous event were adorable. Below is one prime example Geek and Sundry posted on Instagram.

The cast are seemingly very eager to bring the series back for some more episodes, and both Fillion and Neil Patrick Harris are on board, with Whedon going as far as to say to Vulture that it will probably happen sooner rather than later:
If and when it falls together, and I think it will, it won’t be too long.
Whedon collaborated with brothers Zack and Jed for the project, as well as his sister-in-law, Maurissa Tancharoen – all of whom are in the midst of adding more family members to the Whedon clan, which could put the project on hold momentarily.
All who were involved in Dr. Horrible commented on how they loved exploring the idea of the villain and the hero in a new way, with Captain Hammer not being as heroic as he seems, and making us all root for the supposed super villain. Whedon touched upon this briefly, and hinted at the idea that he wants to take this idea further in the sequel.
All the things that we got a taste of, we definitely want to expand…We’re fascinated by what a hero is, what a villain is. That’s kind of central to what we’re talking about and dealing with and tearing apart and undermining. We want more of that, without falling into bloat.
Fillion chipped in too, and expressed how he agreed with Whedon’s central theme, and what drew him to the original project:
I really enjoyed the way Dr. Horrible blurred the lines between who’s the good guy, and who’s the bad guy…The world’s perception is one thing, but we as the audience knew the reality was quite different.
Apparently there is a title Whedon is keeping under wraps, a story in the works, and even songs being made. It seems it’s very close to becoming a reality.
Get ready to sing-along once more, folks!
