[dropcap size=small]C[/dropcap]riticisms of services come and go, and Microsoft is no stranger to that fact. When compared to Sony’s Playstation Plus system, gamers had a lot to boast about in receiving free games that were still hot and relatively new upon release. With that, Microsoft even now is still trying to figure out their Games With Gold service, an offering of free games for those who pay for Xbox Live Gold subscriptions. Though we are fans for free stuff (who isn’t?), sometimes we get the impression that Microsoft is tossing gamers scraps of games they would otherwise have no interest in playing. With the PS4 and Xbox One, it can be even harder to please subscribers with quality games when there is not a big library available to begin with. But this is surely to change through the end of 2014.
And while we still feel this is the truth, every once in a while Microsoft throws their users a bone, this time in the form of the epically entertaining Super Time Force.
The side-scrolling shoot-em-up game takes a unique approach to a classic playing style. You must battle your way throughout the level to reach the end, and then die. Once this happens, the player can rewind and evaluate the run and start over as a new character, playing side-by-side with their previous character, now an automated NPC. Fun, right? We think so. Download it now for Xbox One for free, starting today!
If you don’t have an Xbox One, but still want to play the clever and hilariously awesome Super Time Force, have no fear. It was previously announced that Super Time Force Ultra will be available on Steam for $14.99. You can pick it up now, right here.
If Super Time Force is not necessarily your cup o’ tea, Crimson Dragon is still available for Xbox One as well. Both games will be available for download for free throughout September with an Xbox Live Gold Subscription.
For those of you who have not upgraded hardware in a while, you may actually be in for a slightly bigger treat. Unless you were like everyone else in the world and already bought and beat Halo: Reach on Legendary. One of Bungie’s final Halo contributions, Halo: Reach will be paired up with Monaco: What’s Yours is Mine, both combined for a $40 value for free, throughout September with an Xbox Live Gold Subscription.
