Even though season 1 is widely regarded as the one of the best seasons of television in recent memory, it may not be enough to save True Detective. The ratings drop from season 1 to season 2 may be too much to overcome, especially in an age where immediate success is required.
True Detective creator, Nic Pizzolatto, has also been rumored to have started a new project which would lead to the assumption that True Detective has indeed ended. New HBO programming President Casey Bloys has not said whether or not True Detective would return, which does not help to dispel the rumors. We will just have to wait and see if there will be another season of True Detective.
