‘Halo 6’ in Development, Getting “Serious” Overhaul

Halo 6 is only the first step in 343 Industries’ plan to continue the Halo story for another two decades, at least.

[dropcap size=small]W[/dropcap]hen 343 Industries was first handed the reins to the Halo franchise no one was quite sure what to expect. While Halo 4 didn’t necessarily please everyone or live up to expectations that Bungie had set so high, the direction that the developer was taking the gameplay and more importantly, the story, did appeal to most Halo fans. With that being said, it still is surprising to hear that 343 Industries, who’s most recent Halo 5 hasn’t even been released yet, has many more games planned for the future.

The breaking news comes from Gamesradar, who were very fortunate to get a look at the upcoming Golden Joystick Halo 5 special. 343 Industries’ development director Frank O’Connor can be seen in the video talking about the future of Halo and what he has to say is fairly mind-blowing.

“We’re doing serious, real planning and even some writing on the next game already, and that’s a luxury. We’ve never been in that position before. So we both know at a very high level what’s going to happen in, say, 10 years from now. But at that very granular level knowing what’s going to happen in the next game and that’s just been a great feeling for me.”

Are you surprised? You should be. The video game industry is a scary place for big-name developers like 343 Industries. Sure the Halo fan base is massive, with probably one of the biggest fan-bases when it comes to consoles, but that doesn’t mean the developer can just dish out several games from an extremely popular franchise and expect it’s fans to buy every single one. One bad release and 343 Industries’ image isn’t completely ruined, but it does leave it tarnished. So hearing that 343 Industries has already set the ground work, which isn’t one hundred percent definite, for future Halo games is not only surprising, but impressive as well.

Halo 5: Guardians will be released on October 27th, 2015.
