Square Enix has announced via their Twitter account that Final Fantasy X/X-2 HD Remaster will be released for the PlayStation 4 on May 12 of this year in North America.
[dropcap size=small]I[/dropcap]t was also revealed that as a special treat for fans who pre-order the PS4 release, they will receive a free desktop calendar featuring the artwork Yoshitaka Amano. Amano has provided countless amounts of artwork and logo designs for various Final Fantasy titles, and served as the character designer on Final Fantasy I-VI.
Final Fantasy X / X-2 HD Remaster was previously released for the PlayStation 3 and PlayStation Vita in March 2014 to some mixed reviews. While the game was highly praised for its ageless story and the inclusion of additional content, it was also criticized for the inclusion of some low-resolution textures. This should see a big improvement on the PS4.
Later this month, Square Enix will launch another high-definition title with Final Fantasy Type-0 for the PlayStation 4 on March 17. Fans who pre-order the Day One edition of Type-0 will receive a download code for the Final Fantasy XV demo.
