If only we had this 16 years ago…sigh…
While today’s Pokémon-themed Nintendo Direct may have only been a few minutes long, it had two huge announcements that fans have been clamoring for.
Besides the official reveal of Pokémon Sun and Pokémon Moon, coming later this year for the 3DS, it was also announced that the upcoming rereleases of Pokémon Red, Blue, and Yellow for the 3DS Virtual Console will indeed be Pokémon Bank compatible.
This means if you subscribe to the Pokémon Bank app, you will be able to store the Pokémon you catch in these original adventures in cloud storage, and bring them over to your copies of Pokémon Sun and Moon. Compatibility with X, Y, Omega Ruby, and Alpha Sapphire was not addressed.
We have absolutely no idea how this is possible, since the first two generations of Pokémon games are incredibly different from the later ones, as Pokémon now have abilities, natures, and redistributed stats, but we’re excited this is happening none the less.
Pokémon Red, Blue, and Yellow will release on the 3DS Virtual Console on February 27.
