Zombieland 2 Is Still Happening

No, the idea isn’t dead! The same couldn’t be said for the zombies in the movie!

[dropcap size=small]I[/dropcap]t’s seems like it’s been forever since Zombieland came out in theaters. Some thought that there would be a sequel released soon after the first movie came out. But we have yet to see any form of progress or trailer that the movie is being produced. But writers Zombieland 2 Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick assured fans that the project will happen.

It’s actually still in development over at Sony, they’ve had a couple writers take a crack at it, we’re still exec producers and we’re guiding and helping where we can and, yeah, I think there’s still very much talk about it, but I think it has to be right, I think all the actors and [original ‘Zombieland’ director] Reuben [Fleischer] all feel like there’s no reason to do it again if we’re not getting it exactly right.

The way the first movie ended, you can’t blame that mindset. Instead of just another cash grab movie, make it so it actually follows up from the first movie. That’s why there hasn’t been much to talk about for this new idea. Because of this, no cast members have been announced, but Woody Harrelson among others have expressed interest to returning, if the right idea is presented.

In 2013, Amazon Studios requested a pilot for the Zombieland series. The pilot was directed by Tucker and Dale vs. Evil director Eli Craig and starred Kirk Ward, Tyler Ross, Maiara Walsh and Isabela Vidovic as the main characters (Tallahassee, Columbus, Wichita and Little Rock.) Those four characters were originally portrayed by Jesse Eisenberg, Emma Stone, Abigail Breslin and Harrelson in the first movie. Amazon decided to decline from picking up the project and it has yet to progress since.

Reese and Wernick just had huge success writing the script for Deadpool. So perhaps this is their way to jumpstart this project again. At the same time, they have a hefty schedule as they are writing Deadpool’s sequel and the sci-fi film called Life, starring Ryan Reynolds (Deadpool himself) and Mission Impossible: Rogue Nation star Rebecca Ferguson.

So could this idea still happen? Maybe so. But honestly, I liked how Zombieland ended and would not feel too bad if the idea doesn’t end up on a movie screen.

Do you think that a sequel should be made for Zombieland? Let us know in the comments below!
