Zack Snyder is hard at work to support Army of Thieves, a Netflix exclusive and prequel to Army of the Dead, the latter he directed and the former of which he is producing. Take a look below at the “action-packed” images for the film, shared by Snyder himself.
Meet the Army of Thieves. 💰🔐💰🔐
The action-packed prequel to Army of the Dead, directed by and starring Matthias Schweighöfer, is coming soon to Netflix. #ArmyOfThieves pic.twitter.com/hwCNYmbLwC— Zack Snyder (@ZackSnyder) July 7, 2021
The story takes place prior to AotD, apparently during the early stages of the zombie outbreak before an army of the undead swarmed and took over Las Vegas. The center of the fold this time around is Ludwig Dieter, a survivor of the first film, and focuses on his earlier days in his safecracking career. Dieter is eventually pulled into a “misfit crew” of thieves by a mysterious woman where things will undoubtedly go awry.
Snyder won’t be back to direct nor did he have a major hand in the screenplay this time around but Matthias Schweighöfer, who plays Ludwig Dieter, is directing based on a screenplay by Shay Hatten. Though it should be mentioned that Zack Snyder and his wife Deborah are still credited as producers while Mr. Snyder is also credited behind building the story for Thieves.
Considering the ending of Army of the Dead and seeing how not many made it out alive or uninfected, fans of the first movie can retain a little hope to get more screen-time with their favorite characters from the series but no promises can be made just yet. Though, we expect a surprise or two.
Army of Thieves comes to Netflix toward the end of 2021. No official release date has been given.
