The Destiny character you poured hours and hours of gameplay into will be around for a long time says Bungie.

[dropcap size=small]B[/dropcap]ungie has announced that over the course of the entire the Destiny franchise, players will be able to keep their existing Guardian with them throughout all the battles that the science-fiction FPS can throw at them. It was confirmed by Bungie that Guardians would not need to be changed for at least 10 years. A new character does not have to been chosen in expansions like The Taken King or any subsequent DLCs.
Luke Timmins, a lead engineer with Destiny, spoke to GamesRadar about the subject. Timmins says that Bungie recognizes that players are putting a lot of time and money into these characters and having players create new ones would not make any sense.
“We certainly take it seriously that Destiny is a ten-year thing,” Timmins said. “It’s a long-term thing and with these adventures that we’re adding my contract to you–and any player–is that your Guardian will always be there. We’re going to keep adding new stuff for you to do and I’d hope you’ll look at The Taken King and be like, ‘I’m looking forward to logging on again and hooking friends online.'”
Destiny’s newest expansion, The Taken King, arrives in September with a price tag of $40 and includes an entirely new PvE area, the Dreadnaught, and new PvP arenas.
Bungie has said that Destiny contains endless possibilities for new content and that they have begun working on an “upcoming title” to expand the universe even further.
Destiny: The Taken King releases September 15th for Xbox: One and PS4.
