“Max Landis, I choose you!” – Legendary Pictures
[dropcap size=small]W[/dropcap]ith the overall successful launch of the augmented reality app Pokemon GO, Nintendo’s precious child has once again risen a whole new height of popularity never seen since the original show and game was first released in 1996. Pokemon has always been popular enough to continue to survive throughout the past twenty years and one might even argue that the franchise is at an all-time high right now. That being said, there are people in Hollywood that see this as a perfect opportunity to begin working on a live-action Pokemon movie.
According to Deadline, Legendary Pictures is tempting Nintendo to hand over the rights to Pokemon so the film company can begin working on a live-action film and they have their eye on one well-known writer, Max Landis. Max Landis, the son of Hollywood director John Landis (An American Werewolf in London), penned the script for the thriller/drama Chronicle and the draft for the upcoming Power Rangers reboot among other Hollywood films and has left his mark on the film industry. The man has an impressive resume to be sure and with nearly every film company looking for the next J.J. Abrams, Max Landis would be a safe and smart choice as a screenwriter for the live-action adaptation of the animated Pokemon series.
It is important to point out that saying the possible live-action Pokemon movie would be based on the animated television series is merely an educated guess at best. The original show that included Ash, Misty and Brock was the most popular and so using these three characters as a centerpiece for the plot would wise on Legendary Pictures behalf as well as Max Landis’ if they wanted to attract a larger amount viewers. Of course, Max Landis could always go a different route, presumably creating his own character and starting from there. Regardless of what does happen, we can be certain that a Pokemon live-action film if properly created and filmed, could be a major box office hit. Fingers crossed!
