Three years ago Joss Whedon’s Justice League was released in theaters with fans and critics both viewing the film as what can only be described as a dumpster fire. But now, after years of campaigning from fans, Zack Synder’s Justice League is getting released on HBO Max and it may arrive sooner than most of us had thought.
After WarnerMedia announced they would be releasing their films in theaters and on HBO Max simultaneously, the CEO Jason Kilar wrote a blog post about the company’s plans where he touched on Justice League as well.
“There are so many amazing HBO original series and Max originals I’m excited about. The Tiger Woods HBO documentary arriving in January is incredible. And this little thing called Zack Snyder’s Justice League coming in a few months as well. Oh, and the return of Succession and the highly-anticipated Friends Reunion.”
Just how long is ‘a few months’ exactly? Two? Three? Five? Our best guess is HBO Max will release the Zack Snyder’s Justice League a month or two after Wonder Woman 1984 is released on Christmas day so it rides the latter’s wave of accomplishment.
That way, if the film fails just as badly as Joss Whedon’s, WarnerMedia can point to Wonder Woman 1984‘s accomplishment and write off the over $20 million it costs to have Zack Snyder re-shoot several scenes.
