<Cue “Demons” by Imagine Dragons>
Just a day after the poster debuted, the first trailer for Venom has dropped. Check it out below.
Well I hope you weren’t actually hoping to see Venom in this trailer, because he’s not in it! Instead we get a generous amount of landscape shots and scenes of Eddie Brock (Tom Hardy) sulking around the streets and a convenience store.
At least we get to see the symbiote for a hot second.
Anyway, the film follows Brock, a journalist who bonds with a dangerous alien symbiote to become Venom, a giant monsterman that looks like Spider-Man. Speaking of Spidey, the film, as of now, is confirmed to take place in the “same world” as Spider-Man: Homecoming, but not necessarily in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (because Sony only owns the rights to Spider-Man characters).
Here’s the official description from Sony:
“One of Marvel’s most enigmatic, complex and badass characters comes to the big screen, starring Academy Award® nominated actor Tom Hardy as the lethal protector Venom.”
Yeah we’re not entirely sure Venom is that enigmatic or complex, and even though this teaser did very little to get us excited (mainly because there wasn’t much to it), we’re trying to stay optimistic about this sort-of-kind-of in the MCU and maybe R-rated Marvel movie.
Venom hits theaters on October 5.
