New Line Cinema plans to scrap the 2010 reboot and start fresh!
[dropcap size=small]F[/dropcap]our years ago, New Line Cinema made the first reboot to Nightmare on Elm Street, which ended in bitter disappointment! Now, New Line Cinema plans to redeem that disappointment by producing another Nightmare on Elm Street reboot. There’s no producer picked out yet, but according to Orphan, David Leslie Johnson has been picked to write the script. Toby Emmerich, Walter Hamada and Dave Neustadtler will oversea the project for New Line.
Freddy Krueger has had his share of appearances on the big screen ever since his debut on the big screen in the first Nightmare on Elm Street. Since his debut, Kruger has been featured in nine total films, including Freddy vs. Jason. The Nightmare on Elm Street franchise has also found their way onto novels, comic books and video games, even a TV series!
Along with New Line, director Michael Bay and Platinum Dunes produced the reboot for the franchise in 2010. Starring Rooney Mara and Jackie Earle Haley, the Nightmare on Elm Street reboot received a lot of criticism from critics. Now, the franchise wants to start fresh and go back to the drawing board with the goal of creating a reboot movie worthy of the original! New Line owes this to the franchise after botching the reboot they released in 2010.
Johnson has also worked on season 2 of The Walking Dead and The Wrath of the Titans. Johnson is also pegged to work on the sequel to The Conjuring: The Enfield Poltergeist and Disney’s Something Wicked This Way Comes.
Nightmare on Elm Street isn’t the only horror movie to get another remake as reboots for Friday the 13th, Halloween and Texas Chainsaw Machine are all on the way! Marcus Dustan is in charge of Dimension’s Halloween Returns, Nick Antosca is writing the Friday the 13th sequel, and a Texas Chainsaw Massacre prequel already has a full cast and will focus on Leatherface.
New Line Cinema has not confirmed a release date for the movie.
