Everyone has demons. Especially Arya.
The first trailer for the latest installment in the Fox X-Men film series is here. Check out the surprisingly spooky teaser for The New Mutants.
Five young mutants find themselves trapped in a hospital facility, that indeed appears to be a “haunted house,” and must reconcile with their powers to escape and survive.
The New Mutants stars Anya Taylor-Joy (Split, The Witch) as Magik, Maisie Williams (Arya from Game of Thrones) as Wolfsbane, Charlie Heaton (Stranger Things) as Cannonball, Henry Zaga (Teen Wolf) as Sunspot, and newcomer Blu Hunt as Mirage; as well as Alice Braga (I am Legend) as mentor Cecilia Reyes.
In a previous interview, director Josh Boone (The Fault in our Stars) said he wants The New Mutants to be “Stephen King meets John Hughes,” and, for the most part,” the trailer was just that. With demonic washing machines and angry walls King’s brand of horror definetly shines through the teaser, but we also get a hint of Breakfast Club-ian teen angst and coming-of-age by learning to control your mutant powers.
If anything, the trailer shows that this will be a very different X-Men movie, and we’re hoping it will be.
(And good. We hope it will be good.)
The New Mutants hits theaters on April 13, 2018.
