Arnold Schwarzenegger’s name just isn’t raking in the box office money like it used to, but that has not stopped him from returning to the roles that made him the star he once was.
[dropcap size=small]T[/dropcap]he two stand alone movies starring the forming Mr Universe were flops to put it best. If Arnold is staring cross from another big named actor, like Sly Stallone in Escape Plan or making a reboot/sequel movie, like The Expendables 3, then box-office ticket sales are somewhat profitable.
The Legend of Conan is the third installment of the Conan the Barbarian series and the third time Schwarzenegger will portray this sword swing muscle-man. The process has been slow, but steady since the story idea was pitched to Universal by Chris Morgan (Fast and Furious franchise). The studio loved the first draft and now Will Beall (Gangster Squad) is days away from finishing the second draft.

Conan the Barbarian producer Fredrik Malmberg has stated that The Legend of Conan doesn’t need to be a summer release. Winter and holiday season has been a successful time for fantasy epics with blockbuster movies like Avatar, the Peter Jackson Middle-earth films, and the up coming Star Wars movie. Malmberg had this to say:
“… It’s up to Universal to set the date for [‘The Legend of Conan’] to be released but personally, I don’t think it has to be a summer movie. I think there’s plenty of examples of big event movies being released in the winter like the Matrix movies and The Lord of the Rings. I can see this being a winter movie as well as a summer movie. The iconic role of Arnold as Conan is so big that it can be year round.”
The Conan the Barbarian films have a mixed box office record. The reboot in 2011 grossed $49 million worldwide on a $90 million budget, but when you add the Schwarzenegger brand, as mentioned before, the final result should find a good audience and should make a decent turn over.
