Bilbo is returning to a cinema near you for an extended adventure!

[toggler title=”TL;DR” ]Warner Bros. has announced that they are releasing The Hobbit extended edition in theaters this fall from October 5th to October 13th.[/toggler]

[dropcap size=small]W[/dropcap]hether or not you liked Peter Jackson’s adaption of J.R. Tolkien’s The Hobbit, the trilogy is returning to theaters this fall on October 5th. The difference? This time the trilogy is the extended edition and not the original. That means bonus material, bonus scenes and possibly more content directly from the novel itself!

While it is a questionable move on Warner Bros. part to release the extended edition in movie theaters due to many fans complaining that the movies were much longer than the book, at the same time there are plenty of Peter Jackson fans out there that will pay to see the extended edition. If you are curious how much longer the films are going to be, here are the extended running times for the movies:

  • The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey – 182 minutes (theatrical: 169 minutes)
  • The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug – 186 minutes (theatrical: 161 minutes)
  • The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies174 minutes (theatrical: 144 minutes)

If you don’t feel like spending nine plus hours at the movie theater don’t worry, all three parts of The Hobbit extended edition are available from October 5th to October 13th. However, it is unknown as to whether or not the three films will be available consecutively or separately. It is also unclear if all theaters will have The Hobbit extended edition available or just a few select theaters. Right now, AMC Theaters has announced that they will have the films available. The official statement for the event is as follows:

“Fathom Events and Warner Bros. are partnering to present the extended editions of all three Hobbit movies. Shown over three nights, the epic Peter Jackson trilogy will be the first time the extended editions have ever been released in theatres. Also included will be an exclusive introduction by director Peter Jackson. First night showing starts Monday, October 5th, 2015 at 7:30pm local. Tickets will be regular admission prices for each movie.”
