BlackSmokeFilms, an incredible group from France has put together ‘The Fall of Men‘, a unique live version of ‘The History of Trunks’, and it will blow you away.

First, before you see it (if you have not a dozen times already), know that when it comes to live-action, there are many things that must be changed to bring viewers/audiences into the world on-screen. No, Trunks does not have purple hair, no, there are no talking animals in this film, etc. This is all because while a work of fiction based on the source material, the world must maintain a sense of realism in as many aspects as it can. Then again, a bio-engineered android flying around fighting the Super Saiyan son of the prince of ALL Saiyans is a bit out there, so take that as you will.

The film, which runs just under a half hour, focuses on a universe where Androids 17 and 18 do not exist, or did at one point but have since been consumed by the monstrous Cell, who is causing death and destruction across the world at large.

All of earth’s special forces have been wiped out, save for Trunks, Bulma, and Trunks grandparents. Aside from a few minor cameos, the entire focus is on Trunks’ training to become a Super Saiyan and face Cell alone. Cell, who resembles an appearance crossing the Imperfect and Perfect Cell, is the harbinger of death brought onto the Z-Fighters instead of 17 and 18.

Without giving too much more away, there should be MORE than plenty to keep fans enthralled, in awe of the outstanding landscapes and city structures pieced together by the BlackSmoke team.

Adding my own personal opinion here, it does seem that each and every company out there to date focusing on live action, all have a tendency to bring about their vision of Trunks’ story, likely because it is arguably the most popular story regarding one of the most popular characters in the entire series. That said, between Black Smokes ‘The Fall of Men’, and Robot Underdog’s ‘Light of Hope’ web series, there is plenty of fresh material there, each adding their own take on things.

Dr Brief

Personally, the casting choice of Dr Brief(s) was my favorite.

As a fan-made project, it is hard to review, as Hollywood absolutely butchered and destroyed Dragon Ball’s chances of making a franchise on the big-screen, with the that shall not be named. Because of that, literally every version of Dragon Ball brought to life this way has been infinitely better, and to add that it’s fan-made, only proves once again that this can be done right, if left to the people passionate about the source material.

Ten Shin Han

No, anything but Dragon Ball Evolution!

The film, which can be found on Black Smoke’s YouTube channel (though we have included it here for your convenience), has already amassed a whopping 7,451,848 views.

A Fan-Fiction produced by YOHAN FAURE & VIANNEY GRIFFON
Based upon DRAGON BALL Z created by AKIRA TORIYAMA

The World isn’t like it’s supposed to be.
Something happened along the way.

With these words TRUNKS reminds himself the arrival of CELL, the loss of his friends and his training for combat.
While he knows he doesn’t have any chance, he will try to make the difference and bring back the lost hope.
This Fan Fiction was born from our desire to adapt DRAGON BALL Z into a film, while adopting a dramatic and realistic approach.

THE FALL OF MEN is set in different future, inspired by characters of the DBZ saga, this untold story pays tribute to AKIRA TORIYAMA’s universe.

“The Fall of Men” is a non-profit artistic endeavor. It is not intended for sales of any sort. BlackSmokeFilms does not own the rights possessed by Akira Toriyama, Toei, Shueisha, FUNimation, 20th Century Fox or any of their respective affiliates or licensees of the Dragon Ball Z series.
