Dragon Ball Super to Return with Moro Arc in Sequel Series “The Galactic Patrol”

Has it really been almost eight years? Eight freaking years?!

After wrapping up the Tournament of Power back in 2018, Dragon Ball Super’s anime went radio silent, leaving fans to subsist on manga arcs, movie releases, and the increasingly desperate hope that “this next announcement” would finally move the story forward. Instead, what fans got was a detour in the form of Dragon Ball Daima, a prequel series that has been running for some time now, sending Goku and friends backward rather than forward.

While Daima has some good stuff jammed into its episodes, the broader Dragon Ball fandom has been very clear about what it really wants: Super to return, and to finally adapt the manga arcs that introduced planet-eating villains, galaxy-spanning law enforcement, and power-ups so absurd they make Super Saiyan Blue look like the Kaio-Ken x10.

That wish has finally been granted. Dragon Ball Super is officially getting a sequel series, and it’s called Dragon Ball Super: The Galactic Patrol. A teaser visual was also revealed during the event, showing Goku and Vegeta standing side by side in their usual uniforms and battle armor, with the Patrol’s insignia front and center.

The announcement was made on January 25, 2026, during the Dragon Ball Genkidamatsuri event at Makuhari Messe in Japan, a celebration marking the franchise’s 40th anniversary (you can watch the full live stream below). According to the producers, this new anime is not just another project — it was described as the “pinnacle” of an anniversary initiative that has been quietly building since 2024. Translation: this is the main course, not a side dish.

Adding to the nostalgia factor, Masako Nozawa, the iconic voice of Son Goku, appeared on stage alongside Akio Iyoku, Executive Producer of the Dragon Ball series. The reveal took place during the opening event titled “Exclusive Announcements! GENKIDASTAGE Part 1.”

As part of the presentation, it was confirmed that the new series will continue directly after the Tournament of Power, adapting what manga readers already know as the Galactic Patrol Prisoner Arc. In other words, this is the long-awaited anime debut of Moro — the so-called “Planet-Eater” — a villain who drains worlds dry and exists primarily to make Goku and Vegeta regret every power ceiling they thought they’d broken.

The story follows Goku and Vegeta as they team up with the Galactic Patrol, the galaxy’s official peacekeepers, to confront Moro on a scale that is being described, without irony, as “SUPER.” This arc also brings with it some of the biggest developments in the post-Tournament era, including Vegeta’s Ultra Ego transformation and the looming presence of Frieza’s terrifying Black Frieza form — developments that have lived exclusively in the manga until now.

Perhaps most importantly for longtime fans, Akira Toriyama is credited with Original Work, Story, and Character Design for the anime. In Dragon Ball terms, that’s the closest thing to a divine seal of approval you can get.

After eight years, Dragon Ball Super is finally moving forward instead of sideways. The Galactic Patrol arc represents not just a continuation, but a statement: the anime is done stalling, done reminiscing, and done pretending the Tournament of Power was the end of the road. The galaxy is bigger, the threats are worse, and Goku is once again clocking in for work — this time with a badge.
