One of the galaxy’s most infamous bounty hunters is finally returning to Star Wars. The Hollywood Reporter has revealed that Temuera Morrison is set to appear as Boba Fett in the second season of Disney+’s popular Star Wars series The Mandalorian.
Morrison is perhaps known best for portraying Jango Fett, father of Boba, and the Republic’s clone troopers in the Star Wars prequels Attack of the Clones and Revenge of the Sith. This will be the actor’s first time portraying Boba in a live-action production.
As every Star Wars fan knows, Boba Fett seemingly died when he fell into the sarlacc pit during the first act of Return of the Jedi. There have been numerous Extended Universe (now called “Legends”) stories about Fett escaping from the sarlacc and continuing his career as a bounty hunter. This would be the first time in the official Disney Star Wars canon that Boba Fett makes an appearance post Episode VI.
Fett was actually teased to return during the first season of The Mandalorian in the episode “The Gunslinger.” At the end of the episode, an unseen figure approaches the seemingly dead body of bounty hunter Fennec Shand (Ming-Na Wen). This figure moves with an unmistakable “spur” sound, the sound Fett’s janky Mandalorian armor somehow makes, and the episode takes place in the deserts of Tatooine, home to the sarlacc pit that swallowed Fett.
How will Fett cross paths with the titular Mandalorian? Does this mean Fett will appear in other Star Wars stories, like his once-planned solo film? Will Morrison also play a live-action version of Clone Wars character Commander Rex?
We don’t know yet, but we’re very hyped to see Boba Fett again and especially Morrison return to the Star Wars universe.
The Mandalorian season 2 premieres on Disney+ October 2020.
