The Crypt without the Crypt Keeper?! Nonsense!
It was announced earlier this January that TNT was planning on reviving HBO’s own “Tales From the Crypt” and M. Night Shyamalan was to head the project. But then something fans who hold the series dearest will be disappointed to hear, the original Crypt Keeper may not be returning!
The original Crypt Keeper was voiced by John Kassir and was created for the HBO series when it was on the air. Most likely the reason for him not to return is that because HBO created this character, they own the rights and it has yet to be revealed if they will let TNT use him. Kassir tweeted this:
“…Crypt Keeper as we know him is more popular than ever & it’d be a sham/shame not to have him host the show,”
Sounds like he is rooting for the Crypt Keeper to be revived as well. It has been rumored that the host will be an old man with a cane, with his hood up, next to the fireplace. A character that seems to be staying closer to the original comic.
The plan as known for now is that there will be no weekly “anthology” story nor will the first season have any relation to the comics. Also it is believed that it will go with an “American Horror Story” style of one overlapping arc per season.
With the original series being on HBO and having little to no restrictions on what it could show, it will be interesting to see how TNT adapts this grotesque horror show.
