David Ayer has brought in a ‘life coach’ to keep the actors from getting a little too into character.

[dropcap size=small]A[/dropcap]ccording to Adam Beach (Slipknot), ‘if your character is tormented, [director David Ayer] wants you to torment yourself. He wants the real thing’. Now, while this is a perfectly reasonable method, it can become dangerous when your characters include Harley Quinn, Enchantress and, uh, The Joker. I’m surprised each of the actors doesn’t have their own therapist.

Jared Leto (Joker) has taken Ayer at his word and gone full method. The Oscar-winner reportedly sent a live rat to Margot Robbie (Quinn), a pile of bullets to Will Smith (Deadshot) and just so the rest of the cast didn’t feel left out, he sent them all a dead hog.

The reason Ayer has hired a ‘life coach’ (as described by Beach), is so that the actors aren’t persuaded into taking their work home with them, but judging by Leto’s actions, it might be too late for that. For all of their sakes, I hope that forcing the actors into such twisted places was worth it. I don’t know how it’s going to turn out, but the movie will be dark. That I can tell you.

Suicide Squad hits theaters on August 5th of next year.
