Steven Yeun Will Not Appear As Sentry in Marvel Studios’ Thunderbolts

Apparently, scheduling conflicts lead to Yeun's withdrawal from MCU's Thunderbolts.

In an unexpected turn of events, Oscar-nominated actor Steven Yeun will not be making his debut in the MCU’s Thunderbolts in 2025. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Yeun withdrew from the film due to a scheduling conflict.

Initial reports indicated that Yeun, known for his Academy Award-nominated performance in Minari, was poised to portray Sentry in Thunderbolts. Despite Marvel not officially confirming his role, an unforeseen scheduling clash prompted Yeun’s exit from the project.

While Thunderbolts would have marked Yeun’s debut in the MCU, it isn’t his first foray into comic book adaptations. He previously voiced Invincible in the animated Prime Video series and gained recognition for his role in AMC’s The Walking Dead.

Originally scheduled for a July 2024 release, Thunderbolts faced delays until July 2025 due to the Hollywood writer and actors’ strikes in 2023. These strikes significantly disrupted production, leading to Yeun’s unavailability for Thunderbolts.

Marvel’s Sentry, also known as Robert Reynolds, is a complex and powerful character within the Marvel Comics universe. Initially introduced in 2000, Sentry is a superhero with incredible strength, speed, and energy manipulation abilities, making him one of the most formidable beings in the Marvel Universe.

The movie’s cast features notable names such as Florence Pugh, David Harbour, Sebastian Stan, and Wyatt Russell, but filming has yet to commence.

Jake Schreier, renowned for directing music videos for artists like Kanye West and Justin Bieber, as well as the film Paper Towns, is slated to direct Thunderbolts.
