During a panel at Star Wars Celebration, Gareth Edwards revealed new details, plus a short teaser for the upcoming Star Wars spinoff film, Rouge One.
[dropcap size=small]I[/dropcap]t became clear that the planned spin-offs will known as the Star Wars Anthology. Rogue One will follow the story of a group of Rebel resistance fighters on a mission to steal the plans for the Death Star. The story is said to take place after the events of Revenge of the Sith, and before the events of A New Hope, with the timeline taking place closer to the latter.

In the teaser, dialogue by Sir Alec Guinness as Ben Kenobi from the first Star Wars film is heard over a tracking shot looking down on a jungle planet. A TIE Fighter zooms by, as the camera pans up to reveal the Death Star looming ominously in the sky. It’s not much, but for a movie that even hasn’t started filming yet, how could you complain?

The film is said to take on a more serious tone, with Edwards emphasizing the film is called Star Wars. The film will not feature any Jedi, but instead focus on the Rebel fighters without any powers, as they fight against the Empire.
Rogue One stars Felicity Jones, and is slated for release December 2016.
