Star Wars ‘Rogue One’ to Undergo Reshoots, Han Solo Cameo Expected

Rogue One is apparently no fun.

The very first stand-alone Star Wars film, Rogue One, is gearing up for its release this winter. However, it looks like the movie will be undergoing reshoots for pretty concerning reasons.

The Hollywood Reporter reveals that the cast and crew of Rogue One will reunite later this month to shoot additional scenes for the movie.

Reshoots are a common practice for many big Hollywood films, but in this particular case, it’s (as far as we know) because executives at Disney aren’t happy with the current version of the film.

Apparently, the movie has a very dower tone, and is lacking the sense of adventure and “classic fun” of the original films.

Borys Kit, a writer for the Hollywood Reporter, expanded upon this in a tweet.

It’s not all bad news though, as many sites are also reporting that the reshoots will additionally accommodate a cameo from the recently cast young Han Solo, to be portrayed by Alden Ehrenreich.

For example, Justin Kroll of Variety alluded to this in a recent tweet.

Obviously, we don’t want any of the new Star Wars films to be described as “prequel-ly,” but these reshoots aren’t entirely surprising. This is the first stand-alone film in a much beloved franchise, so if these measures are taken to ensure quality, we’re on board.

The film stars Felicity Jones, Riz Ahmed, Diego Luna, Ben Mendelsohn, Forest Whitaker, Alan Tudyk, and Mads Mikkelsen. Gareth Edwards (Godzilla) is directing.

Rogue One: A Star Wars Story hits theaters on December 16.
