Tatooine has never looked better.
Besides the original Battlefront series, there is perhaps no other Star Wars game that is more highly regarded and loved than Knights of the Old Republic.
Despite PC mods, this game, released initially for the Xbox, is starting to show its age, prompting a group of fans to remake the Bioware original into a new, enhanced, HD title running on Unreal Engine 4.
This project is called Aperion, made up of a group of dedicated KOTOR fans aiming to remake the original game with “added content, new worlds, missions, HUD, inventory, items, and companions.”
As evident from the Aperion’s engine and released screenshots, it’s shaping up to be a gorgeous project.
Comparison screenshots with the original game were released as well.
Obviously, this project is treading on dangerous legal ground, and the Mouse could hypothetically shut them down at any time. However, the team is requiring gamers to own the original game on PC to play Aperion, so to an extent, the project is being touted as “an intense KOTOR mod.”
We’ve seen games remakes on the Unreal Engine before, including Mario, Sonic, and Goldeneye, but this is by far the most ambitious of the bunch.
Aperion looks beautiful, and we’ll take any excuse to revisit KOTOR. Good luck guys.
