Mario looks beautiful in the Epic Games engine.

[dropcap size=small]W[/dropcap]hile Nintendo has remained quiet over the possibility of a new 3D Mario game on the Wii U (here’s hoping for Super Mario Galaxy 3), that hasn’t stopped one fan from bringing Mario to life through alternative means. Using Epic’s Unreal Engine 4, YouTube user Aryoksini has created a build of Mario in beautiful 3D environments.

Aryoksini’s video showcases Mario running, jumping, and collecting coins through a variety of gorgeously rendered locations. The video description shows that the environment assets are from the Unreal Marketplace, thus explaining why Mario can be seen in an industrial setting more akin to the Gears of War series.

The environments of the video are polished and vivid and Mario, himself, has never looked better performing a triple jump.

Unreal Engine 4 is currently unavailable for developers on the Wii U, so it looks like this may be the closest we’ll get to seeing a Mario game running on this technology. However, Nintendo is developing their new console, codenamed ‘NX,’ so perhaps it won’t be long before we see the famous plumber platforming in new and stunning locations.
