[toggler title=”TL;DR” ]At the San Diego Comic-Con director J.J. Abrams discussed new information about Star Wars: The Force Awakens. He told the Star Wars-fan filled audience that the upcoming film takes place thirty years after Star Wars Episode VI: Return of the Jedi, that Han Solo and Chewbacca were not piloting the Millennium Falcon, but have returned to it as their “home”. [dropcap size=small]W[/dropcap]e have finally reached that point. The point where nearly every movie you see at the movie theaters has a preview for Star Wars Episode VII: The Force Awakens. It’s a blessing and a curse to honest. A blessing because we can finally see what we all are waiting for and a curse because the release date, December 18, 2015, is shoved in our faces every time. That being said, maybe we can lessen this pain for you by looking at what we know so far about the movie.
Earlier this month J.J. Abrams took the stage on July 10th at the San Diego Comic-Con to address a room packed full of Star Wars fans about his latest movie, Star Wars Episode VII: The Force Awakens. There was a special trailer for the movie but alas, only those who attended SDCC were able to see it. That being said I have compiled a short, but simple list about everything we know about Star Wars Episode VII: The Force Awakens.
- Both Harrison Ford and Peter Mayhew will be returning to reprise their role as Han Solo and Chewbacca. As seen in the latest Force Awakens, Han Solo and Chewie haven’t been flying the Millennium Falcon themselves, but they have returned to the ship aka their home.
- The Force Awakens will be the first movie in the next trilogy and the events in this film will take place thirty years after what transpired in the Return of the Jedi.
- Daisy Ridley and John Boyega will be playing the roles of Rey and Finn in The Force Awakens, and despite those persistent rumors, she is not from Tattoine, but Jakku. Finn gives everyone the impression that he is a stormtrooper in the trailers, but John Boyega has hinted at something else entirely.
- There are many fan theories surrounding what the roles of Rey, Finn and Han are in The Force Awakens. The most popular fan theory is that the these three are searching for Luke Skywalker. Why? No one isn’t sure at the moment. Some say that Luke may have failed at destroying the Sith and has fled to look over ancient Sith artifacts. Others say he is teaching a padawan (or more).
- Oscar Isaac, who plays the role of Poe Dameron in The Force Awakens is a character whose purpose is unclear at the moment. Oscar Isaac has mentioned that a certain princess (Leia maybe?) has sent him on a top-secret mission. No one knows much more about his character but the actor isn’t afraid to let others know about who his character is, calling him “the best frickin’ pilot in the galaxy!”
- By now everyone has seen the big bad Sith Lord who is carrying the crossguard lightsaber in the The Force Awakens trailer. However details about the character besides his name (Kylo Ren) have not been given yet. All we know is that the actor playing the role is Adam Driver and a lot of people are hoping he will be as menacing as Darth Vader in this newest trilogy.
- Everyone’s favorite droids will be returning for The Force Awakens. Thats right, C-EPO and R2-DR will be returning!
- There is a side film in the works to join the Star Wars universe. The film is called Star Wars: Rogue One and the 2016 standalone film will be directed by Gareth Edwards, the director of Godzilla, and will follow a group of rebels on a mission to steal the Death Star plans. If this wasn’t exciting enough, Darth Vader is rumored to be reprising his role for the film.
- As if one standalone film wasn’t enough, Disney has announced that there will be a movie about Han Solo and his origins. The movie will be direct by Chris Miller and Phil Lord, who directed The Lego Movie. There are rumors that Aaron Paul, who starred in the hit television show Breaking Bad, will play the younger version of Han Solo.
- If you were worried that John Williams would not return to write more amazing music for Star Wars, worry not! J.J. Abrams has confirmed that the incredibly talented composer will return for another film.
