The popular dragon is long overdue for some HD love, and it turns out it is actually going to happen this year.
According to Kotaku, the original Spyro Trilogy will be coming from Activision later this year exclusively for PS4, with potential to hit other platforms depending on undisclosed factors (sales and likely contract exclusivity).
Following the success of the Crash Bandicoot HD Remaster, fans were very vocal about seeing the purple dragon and his dragonfly sidekick getting the same treatment. Speaking from firsthand experience, I recently went back and beat the first Spyro to 120% (all treasure, eggs, and dragons) and had a blast doing it. After all these years, the original PS1 title holds up and was a great time from start to finish.
Oh, how we have missed you, little guy.
Sources allegedly claim that the trilogy will possibly include content that was cut from the original games that had previously only been accessible via cheat tools such as the once popular GameShark.
While this isn’t confirmed yet, a remaster does seem entirely likely considering that September marks the 20th Anniversary of Spyro and lines up perfectly with claims that the announcement will be made next month for a planned release this fall.
