Gamescom 2021 has been blowing up with some pretty impressive game news, and among that news is the reboot, as it were, of Saints Row. Coming in February of next year, witness the birth of the Saints or, you can catch a glimpse for yourself in this announcement trailer:

The announcement trailer certainly does have a lot of fans of the series raising eyebrows and scratching heads as the tone of the cinematic above certainly seems to suggest a major shift away from what players are used to. However, we have it on pretty good authority that this isn’t the case at all, quite the opposite really.

Gene Park, a journalist we love over at Washington Post was able to clarify and put our minds at ease after we got a little worried there in the beginning. He added that Saints Row 2022 is not pursuing a “games as a service” model and is in fact an exceptionally large open-world game that suggests to us will follow many aspects of GTA V such as buying property, playing mini-games, and carrying out various missions while growing your reputation and building your crew. As Gene puts it- “it’s just a classic Saints Row game“.
