More than half of the 1.5 million downloads came from America alone.

[dropcap size=small]B[/dropcap]ack in February 27th of this year Nintendo announced that they would be re-releasing Pokemon Red, Blue, and Yellow for the Nintendo 3DS. The games went on sale just twenty years after they were originally released back in 1996. Nintendo also released a special, limited edition Pokemon 3DS bundle on the same day in celebration of Pokemon’s twentieth birthday.

Since the three classic Pokemon games were released for download on the Nintendo 3DS Nintendo reported that the games were a smashing success among Pokemon fans all across the globe. Nintendo’s president, Tatsumi Kimishima, was reasonably excited with the high volume of sales they were seeing. It was North America that Nintendo saw the highest number of sales, probably because 90s kids were given a chance to relive their childhood memories all over again.

“More than half of these downloads came from the American market,” Kimishima reportedly said, according to the transcripts from Nintendo’s financial briefing. “Since the start of the calendar year, Pokémon has been the subject of much attention in America, and sales are showing a favorable trend.”

The re-releasing of Pokemon Red, Blue, and Yellow is just one part of Nintendo’s massive campaign to celebrate Pokemon’s twentieth birthday. The company is giving 3DS owners the ability to download Mew and other legendary Pokemon as the year goes on. As if re-releasing the original Pokemon games wasn’t enough, Nintendo is gearing up to release their latest Pokemon games this coming holiday season with Pokemon Sun and Pokemon Moon on the way.
