Sacrebleu! Tellement de nouveaux jeux.
Happy Halloween everyone! Amidst the trick-or-treating, watching of Stranger Things 2, or playing of Super Mario Odyssey, Sony unloaded a plethora of new trailers and game reveals via their conference yesterday at Paris Games Week.
You can watch the whole thing here, and below are some of the biggest trailers and announcements to come out of the loaded conference.
But first, the event interestingly had a lengthy pre-show full of nice surprises, including the announcement of sequels to two beloved indie games: Guacamelee! 2 and Spelunky 2. Do yourself a favor and check out the original games before the sequels come out; they’re incredible.
The conference kicked off with an awesome reveal trailer for Ghost of Tsushima, an open-world samurai game set in feudal Japan, developed by Sucker Punch (Infamous and Sly Cooper). Sucker Punch is one of my favorite developers, but the visuals here are enough to get me outrageously hyped.
We next got another new game reveal for Concrete Genie. The player takes the role of Ash, a bullied teenager who draws to escape reality, but it looks like his creations are alive and helping him cope. Beautiful and atmospheric, keep this on your radar too.
We later got a teaser for Insomniac’s Spider-Man. Instead of gameplay, this trailer focused on Peter Parker, and his relationship to MJ, Aunt May, and yep, Miles Morales.
Gameplay for Shadow of Colossus was also shown. In the trailer, we see the Wanderer face the 13th Colossus, a flying sand dragon. Sony confirmed that the game has been rebuilt from the ground up for the PS4 (so it’s a remake), and it’s never looked better. Shadow of the Colossus arrives on PS4 on February 6, 2018.
God of War was shown as well, this time smaller and more focused than the massive E3 2017 trailer. We see old man Kratos fighting with his son Atreus via combat that appears to have the fast, arcadey-feel of the earlier entries in the series, but now with an extra level of strategy by coordinating attacks with your son and using the environment to slaughter foes.
And finally, the show wrapped-up with a new trailer for The Last of Us Part II, which you can read about in our article here.
Overall, this was a pretty massive conference that felt like E3 had a French baby. Nearly all of Sony’s upcoming high-profile games were shown, and they all seem to be coming together well, but we’re going to have to wait at least until next year to play most of them. And hopefully, PSX in December will still have some surprises left for PlayStation fans. (Hopefully.)
