Gotta catch ’em all!
[dropcap size=small]S[/dropcap]ince Pokémon GO hit our smartphones, the dream of becoming the ultimate Pokémon trainer has become as close to reality as it gets. Pokémon are now roaming around our neighbourhoods all over the world just waiting to be caught – it truly is a great time to be alive.
There are plenty of milestones to reach and victories to be had when playing the virtual game, but one all of us strive for is to catch ’em all.
Oh, and to be the very best, like no one ever was.
If you’ve been playing the game you’ll know how hard it can be to come across the rarer Pokémon out there. Most of the time you’ll find yourself in a world of Weedles, Drowzees and Rattatas.
Making your Pokémon dreams come true is no small feat. You need a lot of free time to roam about and explore, and always have a steady supply of Pokéballs at your disposal – micro-transactions, anyone?
A lot of patience comes into too, and of course you’ll have to live in hope the servers don’t drop at a crucial moment.
Well, one New York based Pokémon trainer has claimed to have made that dream come true by catching all of the current 142 Pokémon available to him in the US.
Nick Johnson posted his achievement on Reddit, showing off a screen shot from his phone of all the 142 Pokemon available to catch in his possession – check it out below:
From this one shot we can already see some impressive Pokémon. What I wouldn’t give for that Charizard.
Business Insider got the inside scoop with Johnson about his momentous achievement, and when we say momentous it’s no exaggeration.
Johnson reportedly went in search of Pokémon at night after work since he didn’t have much time during the day. His adventuring could last for around eight hours each night, walking an ‘average of 8 miles a day in the two weeks since he got the game,’ which is some impressive on-foot mileage.
Johnson even went as far as hiring an Uber driver to drive around in circles to find more Pokémon, and one of the last Pokémon he needed took the Brooklyn resident out to Jersey City.
Some Pokémon are exclusive to certain countries – Mr. Mime (Europe), Kangaskhan (Australia), Farfetch’d (Asia) and Tauros (North America) – but this hasn’t deterred Johnson, and he apparently wants to fund a world tour with sponsorship from travel sites in a bid to add to his collection. You can’t say he’s not dedicated.
It is an impressive achievement and we can’t deny we’re a tiny bit jealous. But only a tiny bit, promise.
If you want to follow in Johnson’s footsteps we recommend you take his advice and “buy some good walking shoes.”
