The game was just revealed during Nintendo’s E3 2015 Digital Event in correspondence with Nintendo’s 30th Anniversary of the Mario Bros. video game series.
In the new game, users are able to utilize all of the items and characters from a variety of Mario games including Super Mario Bros, Super Mario Bros 3, Super Mario World, and New Super Mario Bros. The game possesses an easy-to-use drag and drop interface which allows user to create their own Super Mario level in a matter of minutes. Another interesting feature allows the user to change how different aspects of the game interact with each other. Examples include the placement of goombas underwater and Mario flying in clouds.
Users will be able to change seamlessly through the different Mario worlds from the flat 2D platform of Super Mario Bros to the 3D gameplay in New Super Mario Bros. By utilizing online mode, players will also be able to test their Super Mario skills on other levels created by other players across the globe. Another feature the game contains is the implementation of Amiibo characters. The user can simply place an Amiibo onto the Wii U GamePad and immediately Mario will transform into that Amiibo with the next mushroom.
If creating your own levels seems a bit daunting or you’re too lazy to do so, Nintendo will be providing some reference levels that can be edited or played on depending on the user’s preference. Along with the reference levels, owners of the game will also receive two new 8-bit style 30th Anniversary Amiibos in celebration of the special year for Nintendo. It was announced that the game would be released on September 11th, 2015 and is sure to be a must have for Super Mario fans. (Gameplay on Super Mario Maker displayed below)
