Sorry scalpers.
Did you want an NES Classic Edition when it released last fall? Did you get one? Chances are you didn’t. Nintendo infamously failed to predict the high demand for this plug and play console, leading to shortages across the globe, and the system selling for crazy prices on eBay.
Luckily, the big N now seems to recognize the demand for this dose of nostalgia, so they’re bringing it back! For a period of time next year, at least.
Nintendo official announced that the Nintendo Entertainment System: NES Classic Edition is coming back via new shipments sometime in summer 2018.
They also revealed that due to the crazy demand (and fans), the Super Nintendo Entertainment System: SNES Classic Edition will ship through 2018 as well. Initially, it was cease production at the end of 2017.
The NES Classic Edition released last November with 30 ready to play classic games like Super Mario Bros. 3 and The Legend of Zelda for $60. The SNES Classic, set to release on September 29, comes with 20 titles such as Super Metroid and Earthbound, as well as the previously unreleased Star Fox 2. It will retail for $80.
Nintendo’s handling of the NES Classic’s launch was disappointing and infuriating for many fans who couldn’t get their hands on this much-wanted holiday present. However, it seems like Nintendo is learning from their mistakes, and we couldn’t be happier. Hopefully by this time next year, everyone who wanted one of these retro consoles will have been able to find one. And a N64 Classic. Fingers crossed.
