The iconic actor Nicolas Cage is set to reprise his role as Spider-Man Noir in the highly anticipated live-action series “Noir.”

Commissioned jointly by MGM+ and Amazon Prime Video, “Noir” will captivate audiences first on MGM+’s linear channel before reaching global viewership through Prime Video. This confirmation follows the initial reports by Variety in February 2023, solidifying Cage’s involvement and heightening excitement.

Preceding Amazon’s prestigious upfront presentation in New York, the announcement marks Cage’s triumphant return to the role he brought to life in the Academy Award-winning animated feature “Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse.” This venture signals Spider-Man Noir’s long-awaited transition into live-action storytelling.

Set against the vibrant backdrop of 1930s New York, “Noir” promises a gripping narrative, exploring the life of an aging private investigator grappling with his former identity as the city’s mysterious superhero.

Behind the scenes, “Noir” is spearheaded by the visionary duo of Oren Uziel and Steve Lightfoot, serving as both co-showrunners and executive producers. Collaborating with the masterminds behind “Into the Spider-Verse” – Phil Lord, Christopher Miller, and Amy Pascal – the series boasts an unparalleled ensemble of talent. Harry Bradbeer is slated to direct the inaugural episodes, with Pascal overseeing production through Pascal Pictures.

Produced by Sony Pictures Television and Amazon MGM Studios, “Noir” underscores Amazon’s strategic alliance with Sony, particularly in the realm of Marvel properties.

This announcement coincides with Amazon’s greenlight of “Silk: Spider Society,” another thrilling project stemming from the Sony-Marvel collaboration. While specific details regarding additional Marvel characters in Amazon’s lineup remain undisclosed, Sony’s vast repository of over 900 Spider-Man-associated characters promises limitless storytelling potential.

Sony’s illustrious history in the superhero genre includes a myriad of successful Spider-Man films, alongside fruitful collaborations with Marvel Studios. From the blockbuster reboot starring Tom Holland to standalone hits like “Venom” and “Morbius,” Sony continues to captivate audiences worldwide. Currently in development are highly anticipated projects such as the third installment of “Venom” and adaptations featuring beloved characters like “Kraven the Hunter.”

Though it should be noted that this series is not confirmed to take place within the MCU directly (however, one could make the argument all Marvel projects take place in the MCU via the Multiverse), “Noir” heralds a groundbreaking invitation to audiences to embark on an exhilarating journey through the bustling streets of 1930s New York.
