[toggler title=”TL;DR” ]The Detective Pikachu game will see players control Tim, a new arrival in Rhyme City, who ends up helping Detective Pikachu solve cases. Players will gather evidence and information, and draw to a conclusion, with quick-time events and hints from Pikachu appearing throughout. Pikachu is said to be bossy, pushy, fond of tea and coffee, and a ladies man to boot. [/toggler]

[dropcap size=small]A[/dropcap]fter getting a trailer earlier this week, the Japanese Pokémon website for the upcoming Detective Pikachu Game for the 3Ds, has unveiled new details and screenshots, shedding some more light on the quirky little game that has understandably grabbed everyone’s attention.

Thanks to a translation from gematsu, we know that the game is set in Rhyme City, where Pokémon and people live together within the community.

Players will control Tim, who’s newly arrived in the city. Investigating cases alongside Detective Pikachu, Tim can gather evidence from people, while Pikachu handles the Pokémon witnesses; making for the ultimate detective tag-team.

You’ll gather evidence and information, and then draw a conclusion to solve the case. A Pikachu sign will appear when he’s onto something, giving players helpful hints and tips throughout the investigation.

There will be co-operative actions where you work together with Pikachu by pressing buttons as they appear on the screen (like a quick-time event). It seems if you’re successful you’ll gain some form of perk, but the story will still progress if you fail.

We’ve also had some more information about what Pikachu will be like. We saw in the trailer that Pikachu will talk, going way further than ‘Pika,’ or ‘Chu’ that we heard so often in the animated series.

Naturally, since Pikachu can talk, he has other new qualities too. According to Pokemon Japan, Detective Pikachu can be a little bossy and assertive. There’ll be no half measures when it comes to solving cases with Pikachu!

Pikachu demands results!

We’ll be seeing a whole new side to Pikachu that most of us never even thought he had, and if you did think about it… well, I have nothing to say.

The little detective has a weakness for beautiful women. Yep, that’s right. Beautiful women. And he also enjoys a good cup of tea, so it’s understandable that he would seek to combine the two. Pikachu will encourage Tim to bring any interesting women over for tea whenever he gets the chance. The below picture is pure sass. What a Casanova.

Detective Pikachu also loves coffee when he’s not having tea dates with the ladies, and is a frequent cafe-goer and chatter-box.

As with most detectives, one of the main tropes is a certain character flaw – usually alcoholism or some other form of addiction – just to flesh out the hard-boiled investigator. Detective Pikachu is no exception.

He’s unable to use attacks, or discharge electricity properly, and won’t take instructions from anyone. He’s such a lone-wolf.

A whole host of new characters have also been revealed – of both the human and Pokémon variety – with everything from fellow workers in the detective agency, to cafe staff, and a selection of Pokémon with unique personality traits:

Detective Pikachu is certainly shaping up to be one interesting little Pokémon detective. Who else is excited?

The Detective Pikachu Game is set to be released on the Japan eShop February 3, 2016. We’re still eagerly awaiting news on an English release date. Let’s hope we find out soon!
