Degrassi: The Next Generation was cancelled on June 4th by TeenNick, but fortunately for its fans Netflix has decided to revive the show.
[dropcap size=small]T[/dropcap]here have been several Degrassi shows in the past. The newest series, which will be streaming on Netflix in 2016, will be the fourth show in the Degrassi-universe overall. In the Unites States the show will just be labeled as Degrassi, but for those who live in Canada the show will be called Degrassi: The Next Class.
Degrassi has had a solid amount of viewers since it first aired back in 1989. While many actors and actresses have left the show and the title of the show has change a few times, the focus of the show has always remained the same. Degrassi has generally held teenage-viewers and the show tends to touch on many experiences like sex, pregnancy, gangs, domestic violence, rape and suicide that some teenagers will encounter while they’re in high school and college.
Degrassi has also held a small list of popular celebrities who got their start on the show. The popular rap star Drake starred in show as Jimmy Brooks, who became wheelchair-bound after being shot, and stayed with show for over one hundred episodes. Vampire Diaries’ Nina Dobrev and 90210’s Shanae Grimes also got their start on Degrassi as well. It is uncertain at this time if all the characters from the original Degrassi: The Next Generation will appear on Netflix’s Degrassi.
Degrassi will be streaming on Netflix in 2016.
