Phil Lord and Chris Miller will write and produce for the upcoming animated Spider-Man movie that will be released in July 2018.
[dropcap size=small]W[/dropcap]ith so many different versions of the Spider-Man movies out these days, it seems as if we are drowning in a sea of spider-webs. Sony, who owns the rights to the Spider-Man franchise, has recently come to an agreement with Marvel Studios to allow their Spider-Man character to join in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. With news of a solo animated movie coming out in the summer of 2018, it seems Sony isn’t going to just give up one of its top money makers.
Phil Lord and Chris Miller, who have worked on series like 21 Jump Street, The Lego Movies, and on The Flash will be producing and writing on the upcoming movie. The two have talked of maybe directing the film as well, but they have plenty of options to choose from. Spider-Man does match the twos sense of humor and would be a perfect fit if they decided to go that route.
Although we are very excited to see what this new Spider-Man will have to bring, we can’t help but wonder, how many Spider-Man movies do we need? Do we really need to see another origins story about how a boy who gets bit by a genetically altered spider and learns how to use his powers to ultimately save the day? With Lord and Miller being part of a younger group of Spidey fans, hopefully we can get past all the setup and get to the good stuff.
Sony’s New Animated Spider-Man movie will be out July 20, 2018.
