Magic: The Gathering Secret Lair x PlayStation Collab Coming Next Month

Mark your calendars for October 27, because Wizards of the Coast and Sony have teamed up for a crossover that sounds like it was brainstormed by a fanfiction forum: Magic: The Gathering Secret Lair x PlayStation. That’s right—Joel, Ellie, Kratos, Aloy, Nathan Drake, and Jin Sakai are about to show up at your Friday Night Magic table like they’ve been planeswalkers this whole time.

The Superdrop: Seven Packs of Gaming Icons

This “Superdrop” (because apparently “expensive bundle of cardboard” didn’t test well) includes seven unique Secret Lair packs, each themed around a PlayStation franchise. We’re talking The Last of Us (Part I & II), God of War (Greek & Norse), Horizon Forbidden West, Uncharted, Ghost of Tsushima, along with a few mystery card additions Sony and Wizards of the Coast are saving for that final hype trailer.

Every card reimagines iconic characters, weapons, and locations as Magic cards, with Wizards working directly with Naughty Dog, Santa Monica Studio, Guerrilla, and Sucker Punch to make sure everything feels authentic. Translation: expect more flavor text about vengeance and grief than your average Phyrexian horror card.

Joel, Ellie, and the Whole “World’s Ending, but I’ve Got a Brick” Vibe

The first Last of Us drop pairs Joel and Ellie as individual cards that get stronger when played together, because even in Magic, co-op beats solo runs. The second drop focuses on The Last of Us Part II, with Abby and Ellie’s conflicting journeys turning into mechanics that basically scream “revenge will cost you everything.”

According to the Magic the Gathering website, there are three more cards yet to be revealed under the The Last of Us Part I label and three more under Part II.

Nathan Drake Swings Into Card Form

In another Naughty Dog pack, Nathan Drake finally ditches Quick-Time Events for trading card combat mechanics. His Magic debut makes every fight feel like another treasure hunt. Expect a lot of “oops, I survived that by luck” flavor text, because if there’s one thing consistent about Nate, it’s his uncanny ability to turn fistfights into tourism.

According to the Magic the Gathering website, there are four more cards yet to be revealed under the Uncharted label.

Kratos Gets Two Whole Sets (Because One Pantheon Wasn’t Enough)

Santa Monica Studio didn’t half-ass this collab. They went full Kratos, with two Secret Lair packs showcasing his eras:

  • Greek Kratos: pure chaos, rage, and enough red mana to light your table on fire.
  • Norse Kratos: dad mode activated. He buffs Atreus while trying to teach patience, though let’s be honest—he’s still gonna rip something in half before dessert.

According to the Magic the Gathering website, there are four more cards yet to be revealed under the God of War Greek IP and two more coming under the Norse iteration.

Aloy Aims True, Even on a Card Table

Guerrilla’s Horizon entry puts Aloy front and center as a balanced, versatile hero card. True to form, she survives impossible odds through brains, grit, and enough arrows to make Legolas feel inadequate.

According to the Magic the Gathering website, there are four more cards yet to be revealed under the Horizon Forbidden West label.

Ghost of Tsushima: Honor or Stealth? Why Not Both?

Jin Sakai’s Secret Lair debut lets him walk the line between samurai honor and shadowy assassin. Want to duel face-to-face? There’s a mechanic for that. Prefer to stab your enemies in the dark? Also an option. Basically, Jin’s card is a moral dilemma wrapped in cardboard.

According to the Magic the Gathering website, there are four more cards to be revealed under the Ghost of Tsushima label.

When and Where

The Magic: The Gathering Secret Lair x PlayStation Superdrop goes live October 27 at 9 AM PT (5 PM BST / 6 PM CEST). Each pack will be available in both non-foil ($39.99 USD) and rainbow foil ($49.99 USD), because Wizards knows you’re willing to pay extra to blind your opponents with shiny versions.

If you’ve ever wanted to see Aloy tap for mana, Kratos resolve a combat trigger, or Joel absolutely wreck a Phyrexian with a revolver, now’s your chance. Just remember: when Nathan Drake inevitably top-decks his way out of a lethal board state, don’t say you weren’t warned.
