Here are nine alternatives to the wildly popular convention.
Comic-Con is right around the corner, and chances are if you aren’t planning on going, you won’t be. This incredibly popular event for fans of all facets of pop culture is notoriously crowded, as well as out of the way for people not living in San Diego.
The good news is that if you can’t make it to Comic-Con this year, you can still get the con experience at many other conventions across the country. Here are nine standout examples.
Anime Expo (Los Angeles, CA) The largest anime convention in the country. Probably more than one person will be cosplaying as a titan.
D23 Expo (Anaheim, CA) The biennial convention for all things Disney. Fans attending this year will see sneak peaks of upcoming Disney films like Finding Dory.
Dragon Con (Atlanta, GA) A giant southern based con drawing in over 50,000 fans a year.
Heroes Con (Charlotte, NC) One of the largest independent cons in the country. Its focus is mainly on comic books.
MegaCon (Orlando, FL) A huge gathering of gaming, comics, and TV. Over 80,000 in attendance last year.
London Film and Comic Con (London, UK) A solid and fun alternative for those of us who live across the pond.
PAX Prime (Seattle, WA) One of many Penny Arcade festivals held throughout the country. Come here specifically if you’re a fan of games and music.
Wizard World (various cities) This con travels to 27 cities a year. Check the link below to see if it’s coming near you!
Wonder Con (Anaheim, CA) A smaller con, but a great place to buy rare figures, comic, or DVDs.
