Before fighting the CIA and surviving on Mars, Matt Damon fought on The Great Wall.

[dropcap size=small]P[/dropcap]ost San Diego Comic-Con 2016, Legendary’s ‘The Great Wall’ has refused to fight the other trailers but rather monsters. Fighting on one of the most iconic structures, an elite force must defend humanity from an unknown evil. Check it out below:

The trailer gives some tidbits about the wall and sets an ominous tone with what the actual enemy is. The enemy is otherworldly with different shapes and sizes, with them ranging from human size to dragon size. It’ll at least be interesting to see how the combat is handled, if they cover all 5,5oo miles of the wall and the explanation of knowing why to build it and how they did it in 1,700 years.

With a budget of $135 million, ‘The Great Wall’ is the most expensive film shot entirely in China. The film is also directed by Zhang Yimou, known for Hero and House of Flying Daggers, and will be his first English-language production.

The film is receiving some backlash for having Matt Damon, a white male actor, as the main protagonist. Constance Wu, star of Fresh Off the Boat, has gone to Twitter to display her distaste.
“We have to stop promoting the racist myth that only a white man can save the world,” Wu exasperated. “Our heroes don’t look like Matt Damon.” The actress has gone on record that “it’s not about blame, it’s about awareness” but rather the “repeatedly implied racist notion that white people are superior to [people of color].”
Below is the full note, with some profanity:

Starring Matt Damon, Jing Tian, Pedro Pascal, Willem Dafoe and Andy Lau, ‘The Great Wall’ is set to release February 17, 2017.
